Kurzbiographie

Karl Aberer studierte Mathematik an der ETH Zürich und promovierte 1991 in theoretischer Informatik. In den Jahren 1991 und 1992 war Karl Aberer im Rahmen eines Forschungsstipendiums am International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), University of California, Berkeley, tätig. 1992 wechselte Karl Aberer an das GMD Institut für integrierte Publikations- und Informationssysteme (IPSI), Darmstadt, wo er 1996 die Leitung des Forschungsbereichs Informationssysteme übernahm.

Seit 2000 ist Karl Aberer ordentlicher Professor für verteilte Informationssysteme an der Fakultät für Informations- und Kommunikationswissenschaften der ETH Lausanne. Von 2002 bis 2004 leitete Karl Aberer das Institute for Core Computing Science am Departement für Informations- und Kommunikationswissenschaften der ETH Lausanne. Seit 2005 ist Karl Aberer Direktor des Nationalen Forschungsschwerpunktes für "Mobile Information and Communication Systems" (NCCR MICS).

Karl Aberer ist seit 2004 Mitglied des Schweizerischen Wissenschafts- und Technologierats.Er wurde am 5. August 1962 in Hohenems, Österreich geboren und ist Vater von drei Kindern.
